True's Tuesday Coloring Tutorial - "Ice Cream Cone" with Tombows

Hi Everyone!

Hope you are all staying cool!

It's sweltering here in Kansas! We are supposed to hit 114 degrees today and 115 tomorrow!  Ugggh!

I need something cold to cool me off so....

Today I am going to share how I color the "Ice Cream Cone" stamp that I illustrated for Clear Dollar Stamps with Tombow markers.

 The "Ice Cream Cone" stamp measures 1 5/8" x 3 3/4" and is just $4.99!

 

(It is also available in a smaller size, in the "Birthday Party" set)

I bought a new camera and the pictures are very clear so... I am going to let them do the talking.
 
The image was stamped onto watercolor paper with a waterproof ink. 

See the photos for colors used, placement, and when to blend with a damp paint brush.

I added a little highlight to the cherry with some white acrylic paint and then finished it off with some Diamond Glaze.

Coloring "EnamelWare Look" With Tombows

But now...it's time to put the sparklers down and pick up your markers! :)

EnamelWare or SpeckleWare is doing a comeback! I am so excited because I just love the stuff! I remember my grandmother having just about every dish in her cabinet made from it. One of my favorite pieces she had was a rooster creamer. Ever since I illustrated the "Rooster Sunrise" set for Clear Dollar Stamps, I have wanted to try making it look like EnamelWare. I hope you don't mind me sharing my technique here with you this Technique Tuesday.

Coloring "Roses To Die For" Tutorial

 
Hi Everyone!

True :D  here with another Tombow coloring tutorial for you. Today I'll show you how to do a two-tone rose using the "Roses To Die For" stamp set that I illustrated for Clear Dollar Stamps. I made a jumbo paperclip bookmark (that I CASE'ed from my friend Sarah) by using the coordinating  "Blooming Bouquet" designer die set.

These are the supplies you will need.

First you will need to cut your die shapes out of white watercolor paper.

Then stamp your images. I used CDS "Pucker Up" and  "Spring Leaf" inks.

I did 5 leaves for my project. 

First I colored in the shadow areas of the rose centers with #090. 

Then I smoothed out the lines with a damp paintbrush. You could also use a water brush. 

Then I hit the shadow areas again with #025. I also hit the highlights on the leaves. 

 Again, smoth out the lines with a damp paint brush.

Color in the outer areas of the roses with #761 then smooth with water. 

Color the shadow areas of the leaves with #098 then smooth with a damp brush. 

 
 Use #723 to add little lines in the egdes of the petals and in some shadow areas. 

Lightly hit with a damp paint brush trying not to blend away all of the little lines. 

 Tie a bow to the paper clip and attch the large rose to the top. Attach the smaller rose to the center of the large one using pop dots or foam tape. Glue the leaves onto the back of the large rose. Add some Stickles if you like some sparkle.

Here is Sarah's paperclip that I CASE'ed. It's soooo pretty in pink too!

"Flower Bunny" Tombow Coloring Tutorial

 Happy Tuesday Everyone!

True :D here.

Today we are going to color the "Flower Bunny" stamp that I illustrated for Clear Dollar Stamps.

This image is adorable in grey, white, even pale blue and pink for babies, but today we are doing him in brown. The color placement is the same for whatever color you choose to use.

 You will need the "Flower Bunny" stamp, watercolor paper, waterproof ink, a water pen or fine tip paint brush, and Tombow markers.

I used 977, N95, 723, 098, and 062.

Stamp your image and let dry a couple of minutes.

 With the 977 Brown, lay color down in the shaded areas of the bunny's head and body.

 With your dampened brush, pull the color out from dark to light making sure to leave the shaded areas darker.

Avoid the chest, feet, and muzzle. Feather the color around the chest and feet, leaving these areas white.

 With the N95 Grey, color the shaded areas of the the tail, muzzle, and feet. This color is so light that there is really no need to follow with water blending.

 With the 723 Pink, add a touch of color to the ears, nose, and around the flower centers.

 Blend the color from dark to light with your brush.

With the 098 Green, color in the shaded areas of the leaves, stems, and grass. 

Again, blend with the dampened brush. Fade the grass to white towards the bottom. 

 Color in the flower centers with 062 Yellow and you are ready to assemble your card! :)

Coloring Peanut Butter and Jelly! :)

Hi Everyone!

It's my turn to fill in for our Katie until she feels better.

Please keep her in your prayers.

I am going to show you how I color the peanut butter sandwich image from Clear Dollar Stamp's ~ "We Go Together Like..." stamp set.

 

It is a super fun set that would work great for Valentine's Day and the rest of the year for friends or people you love. I illustrated the set but it was the brain child of Lori who wanted a set that might appeal to the younger crowd. Well...I am 40 something and I like it too!  :)

I am using Tombow markers on watercolor paper stamped with water-proof ink. I think most of the pictures speak for themselves so just scroll on down and check it out.  ;)

I might note that I do outline the shadowed areas then blend with water and a wet paintbrush.

 

 

I used a white gel pen to add some highlights.

I finish it off with some glaze to add shine and dimension.

Here is the finished product!  :)

Edited to Add for Judy :) -----> Measurements for the red and blue panel on the card front are 1 3/4 x 4 1/8. I cut a white piece measuring 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" and then attached the blue and red piece of cardstock on the ends.

Hi friends, its Katie here with another Tuesday Tutorial.  Today, I get a chance to share with you a new digital image that was just released last week.  This is a perfect image just in time to celebrate our Nation's Independence Day called Let Freedom Ring.  I love this image.

I also wanted to spend a few minutes sharing an additional way of coloring with our Tombow Markers.  I generally use a waterbrush, but to be honest, my card ladies prefer to use a blending pen.  If you didn't know, Tombow carries a blending pen to work with their markers.  You can get it at Clear Dollar Stamps ->HERE<-

The blending pen is a great way to start if you are a beginner but it is also a very legitimate way of coloring and it affords you a quick and easy way to color your images.

Now... there is a but here.  I used the watercolor silk paper to use my blending pen.  I feel that it works the best with no pilling.  You can use regular cardstock, but you have to work very quick and you can't "work" the project the same way you can with the watercolor paper.

So lets get going... I used Raging River, Strawberry Jam,  (soon to be available)  Cottonball White and the coordinating  tombow markers.

 

Lay your ink down

Grab your blending pen and pull the color into the white sections and/or move your pen in a circular motion from the ink to the white space.

 

When you want to change colors, its very much like the waterbrush... lay your tip down on a paper towel and stroke back and forth until you ink disappears.

 

The blender pen does have a fine tip on the other end too and this can be very helpful if you get into some tight corners.

 

Trudy mentioned this technique in one of her earlier tutorials and it works just as well with the blending pen.  I chose to apply the ink to the acrylic block so I would have more control applying the color to the star section.

If you want it darker, just apply the color again.

 

And the pole... lay down a strip of ink.

 

Next, its just time to cut your image out and attach to your card.  Look at how fabulous the coordinating markers work with the Clearly Coordinating Cardstock... you gotta love that!

Watercoloring with Tombow markers - Pansy Bunny

Today I am going to do my tutorial a little different. It is one thing to describe how to blend but another to actually show it being done. This is just the second video tutorial I have done so please bear with me as I am learning! LOL!

This was actually my sixth attempt at coloring this image for you! The program I use to upload only allows for a 10 minute video. the first attempt was 17 minutes. Each new one was progressively shorter. I really sped it up on the last one but got it all in! Wheeew! There are a few goofs. I get tongue-tied a couple of times trying to speed talk. ;)   While my camera skills still leave much to be desired, I think you will really get a feel for how easy it is to color and blend with Tombow markers by watching this video. You might get a laugh or two also!
