I just love the Prayer Journal set! I actually made my entire family these little Prayer Journals for Christmas last year....you can see all of those at the end of this tutorial!
Below is the inside of this journal with prayer cards to write down your prayer requests and journal when God answers.....what a perfect way to build your faith! Some of my friends/family are using it as a journal of spiritual growth or journey to pass on to their kids...what a great idea!
Supplies used in this project:
Creating your Prayer Journal covers:
Cutting the Cover Papers
Cranberry Crisp (red): Cut two pieces 6 1/4" x 4 1/8" for the front and back outside covers, one piece 3 3/8" x 1 3/4" for front cover mat behind cross.
Olive Green: Cut two pieces 4" x 4 1/2" for the front and back outside covers
Floral Pattern: Cut two pieces 4" x 1 1/2" for the front and back outside covers and one piece 2 1/2" x 1 3/4" for the inside front cover and then cut one 4" x 4 1/4" for the inside back cover.
Green Pattern: Cut one piece 3 3/16" x 1 1/2" for the front mat behind the cross and one piece 4" x 1 3/4" for inside front cover.
Green Plaid: Cut one piece 6 1/4" x 4 1/8" for the inside front cover and one piece 2 3/8" x 4 1/8" for the inside back cover.
Assembling Covers (refer to images below)
Grab your Cuttlebug and the Textile embossing plate and emboss one piece of the olive green 6 1/4 x 4 1/8 to place on your front cover. You don't need to emboss the back cover piece, but if you're feeling lucky, knock yourself out!
Take the 4 x 4 1/2 olive green pieces and the 4 x 1 1 /2 pieces of the floral pattern and stick them to the 6 1/4" x 4 1/8 piece of Cranberry Crisp cardstock using either the Zip Dry paper glue or the Scor-Pal tape per the photo shown below. Stitch around the outside edges except for the binding edge. If you are using another binding method besides the BIA (like binder rings), then stitch around all the edges.
Using the Scor-Pal double-sided tape, wrap the brown and cream chenille ribbon vertically as shown in the picture below. Secure ends behind the paper. Using the Zip Dry glue, affix the cover papers to the Zutter Kraft chipboard covers. If any of the red cardstock overhangs the chipboard, use an emery board to sand away the excess, then use the cat's eye brown ink to ink all the edges of the cover.
Inside of covers:
I decided to make some patchwork inner covers from my scraps of creating the inner pockets....I think they turned out very cute!
To cover the insides of the book, we'll start with the inside front cover. On the front cover, measure half way down the right edge and 1/4" in and insert the decorative brad. Do not push it flat to the cover, but leave enough room to wrap your closure ribbon around it. We'll cover the ends of the brad when we glue the inside cover papers to the chipboard cover. After you've inserted the brad, flip the front cover over and we'll begin covering the inside.
Take your large piece of plaid pattern and then afix the two smaller pieces of patterned paper on the plaid paper as show below (the 4 x 1 3/4 green pattern and the 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 floral pattern pieces). Stitch around the two smaller pieces and then glue the whole piece on the inside front cover of the chipboard cover, covering the ends of the brad. File off any excess paper and ink the edges.
On the inside back cover, assemble the large floral and green plaid as shown below. Stitch along the connecting edges and then glue to the inside back cover. Sand off any excess paper and ink the edges. Using your Crop-A-Dile or eyelet tools, punch a hole in the back cover coinciding with the position of the brad on the front and then loop your burgundy taffeta through the hole and pull the ends through the loop. You will tie the book closed around the brad. You're finished with the back cover so you can set it aside. We're now going to assemble the front mat and cross.
Embossing your Cross element for the front of the journal:
1. Stamp your cross in to your Versamark pad on your colored cardstock
2. Sprinkle your copper embossing powder on to your stamped image.
3. Gently shake off the excess powder. Give a little flick with your fingernail to the back of the cardstock to make sure all the excess is off your project.
4. If you have an embossing gun (found at Hobby Lobby and many other craft stores), heat emboss your image. The bottom left picture is another way you can emboss...on your toaster! Learned this from a college student! The look you get is a little different...a more mottled antique look...the embossing gun gives you a more shiny puffed look. Bottom right picture shows you both with the toaster cross on the left and the embossed cross on the right.
5. Trim out your cross.
6. Cover your cross with 3D Crystal Lacquer. Set this piece aside and let it dry. Make sure it is level as it dries.
To assemble the mat behind the cross for the front cover, take the last piece of patterned green paper and glue it to the small piece of red cardstock. Stitch around the edges and then use the brown cat's eye ink pad to ink the edges. Using thin dimensional tape, afix the mat to the front cover as shown below. Then use thicker dimension tape to attach the cross to the front cover over the mat as shown below. Your front cover is finished! Now we can move along to the inside envelopes and cards.
Creating pockets and prayer cards:
The inside envelopes are made by covering library pockets with decorative 12x12 scrapbook papers. We'll be wrapping the envelopes in the paper and then trimming them to the size needed for our book.
Each sheet of 12 x 12 scrapbook paper will make three envelope covers. Use the excess papers for the pieces needed for the covers. Here is the cutting template for prayer card pockets:
Using double-stick tape, wrap each library pocket with the 4 1/4" x 7 3/4" pieces. You'll have a closing flap on the back side of the pocket. Cover 12 pockets with your decorative paper strips. If you have a folding bone, you can crease your folds to keep them flat. Then trim off the top edge of the library pockets so that the finished size of the pocket is 4" tall. Using the Vintage Flourish Months stamp set, stamp the top of each envelope with each one of the months.
Creating the Prayer Cards:
Cut 12 card inserts out of the olive green paper to 5 x 3 1/4. Using the decorative corner punch, punch both corners at one end of the cards only. Cut an additional 24 cream cards 4 x 3 and stamp one side using the Log It stamp set as shown above. Attach the stamped cream cards to both sides of the olive green inserts. Punch twelve tabs from the Cranberry Crisp cardstock and glue them to the top of olive green card inserts using tape or glue.
To finish the book, use your BIA to punch the holes in the front covers and the twelve covered library pockets (make sure your card inserts are NOT in the envelopes!). Insert your wires and crimp. As the final finishing touch, tie your remaining burgundy taffeta ribbons to the wires on the binding of the book! Beautiful!
Below are examples of the Prayer Journals I made for my family just to give you an idea of different combinations of papers and ribbons. Each book has a hang tag made from the Prayer Journal Stamp set.
I hope you have enjoyed today's tutorial.

Hi everyone, its Tuesday which means that its me (Katie) again. Valentine's Day is just around the corner and I have one last little *heart* project for you. I adapted this cute little box/carrying case from a gift that was given to me by a friend and thought it was the cutest. I always think candy and since its that time of the year, those boxes of conversation hearts just popped into the 'ole brain of mine.
Here's a little picture of it and you can see a bigger version of the completed project at the end. Don't worry, I tend to be "a read the back of the book first" (not all the time, ok) so feel free to head on down to see a larger version of what you will be making.
Here's your list of materials:
Paper cutter
Scor-pal or scoring tool
MS Heart Punch
MS Heart Border Punch
Cropadile or Hole Punch
Adhesive
Scissors
Spots a Plenty Stamp Set
January stamp of the month
Too Sweet
Ink
So let's get started. This treat holder requires 4 main sections.
The wrap:
2 pieces cut to 3 x 8
Time to score the two 3 x 8 sections:
Time to decorate: I used Spots a Plenty in red:
Then I used the small outline heart from January's stamp of the month with a nice white pigment ink.
Time to create the "wrap" for your candy holder: I have laid it down sideways so you can see how to attach it - easy peasy. Just place one bottom on top of the other.
Now for the boxes that will house your candy boxes: Cut 2 pieces at 4" x 5 1/2"
Time to score:
Line your 5 1/2" length against the top of your scor-pal or scoring tool and score at 1/2", 1 1/2", 4", 5"
More scoring: Flip your cardstock so that the 4" side is lined up at the top of the scor-pal. Score at
2 1/2" and 3 1/2"
Time to cut:
Time to apply your adhesive:
Time to fold:
Time to attach your boxes to the "wrap": I found that there was some give while attaching your boxes to the wrap. I laid the wrap down so I could visually see that my box was even at the edges.
With both boxes attached:
Punch holes at the top for your ribbon:
Thread your ribbon through holes and tie in a knot or bow:
Your done! Decorate front as you wish. I used the Martha Stewart heart border punch to create the scallops and then attached hearts punched out with the Martha Stewart single heart punch that I stamped using the polka dot label stamp from Too Sweet and used pop dots to pop them off the front. The "A Valentine's Wish" sentiment also came from the January stamp of the month.
These are super fun and easy to make so I hope you make a bunch. If you have any questions please feel to e-mail or leave a comment. Thanks so much for stopping by Clearly iStamp and I hope you have a fun and fabulous Tuesday!!!

Hello everyone! This is Vicki Conquest again for your Friday project tutorial. Since I am project girl for CDS (along with my good friend Candy), I'll focus more on how to make the project and less on stamping techniques. Throughout next week I'll be making some additional samples with all the bells and whistles. I'd love to see what you can create with this project!
Since we are so close to Valentine's Day, I thought I would introduce you to the magical folding hearts card/ornament! Here is one lovely sample of the finished piece secured shut with the sliding glass bead. It will open out fully and you can set it on a table in a half open position, or open it fully by pulling the bead up to the knot and flipping the ribbon around the other side and then pull the bead back down towards the heart to secure it in the open position.
This is a quick project with lots of opportunity to stamp, personalize and embellish. I'm intentionally keeping this project simple. This project is very versatile, it can be made in a variety of sizes and shapes. The project we're doing today is based on a six inch square format, but you can make them any size. Try a small 3 x 3 for an ornament. By not adding a lot of stamps or decoration, you can see what a large canvas you have to work with. Typically, I like to stamp on one side and journal on the other side if I am giving it as a gift. For example, I might stamp the word "Cherish" from the CDS Cherish set on one side and then journal on the other side about the things I cherish about the person I am giving it to. It makes a personal gift and you can choose to hide the journaling by sliding it closed. So, without further adoo, here is a list of today's supplies:
2 sheets of 12 x 12 double-sided cardstock (I used MME Signature)
Glass Bead with larger hole to pass ribbon
16" of 1/8" satin ribbon (your judgment skills here, if you pick a bead with a larger hole, you can use wider ribbon)
VersaFine Onyx Black and Crimson Red ink (Memento works as well)
VersaMagic Jumbo Java Chalk ink
Clear Super Fine embossing powder
Bone folder
Adhesive (I used Glue LInes)
Trimmer
Pencil
Gum Threader
Scissors
Cherish stamp set from Clear Dollar Stamps
In this project, we will be stamping on the inside of the heart pieces and on the outside facing pieces. You can also stamp on the sides that face out or use rub ons. This project can double as a card and a gift! We are making a heart shape today, but you can leave the tips untrimmed to form a star for a Christmas gift, or trim in a circle shape for those occasions where a heart or star just wouldn't do!
STEP 1
You'll want to start by cutting six (6) 6" x 6" squares from your 12" x 12" paper. I used a patterned double-sided cardstock for this project, but you can easily make your own patterned papers by using Clear Dollar Wheel stamps or any set of stamps of your choice. Katie showed us several weeks ago how to use Random Stamping to create our own papers. Now is a good time to try your hand and making some personalized papers for this project. Determine which side you want to face outside, I will refer to this side as the patterned side as I used the patterned-side facing out. We are going to use one of these 6" x 6" pieces for you to fold and use as a pattern to see which sides of your paper you want to face out and where your stamping opportunities are, inside and out. We only need 5 pieces for the project itself.
STEP 2
Cut three pieces of 3 x 3 paper, preferably with a solid color. Two of these are going to be our outside end facing pieces that we want to stamp and emboss. The third piece is going to be our heart shape template.
STEP 3
To create the heart cutting template, trace the top of a heart shape on the third piece of 3 x 3 and cut along the top curved edge. This will be the heart pattern we use to trace onto the folded squares and the two facing pieces. I used my plain heart Nestability as a pattern for my heart shape.
STEP 4
If you want to stamp on the inside or outside of your heart, it will be easiest to stamp before you fold the pieces. To see where you can stamp, fold the extra piece of 6 x 6 according to the directions below, then note the areas where you want to stamp. Remember that you will be trimming the tops into the heart shape, so don't stamp in spaces that will be cut off or glued together in Step 7 below. In my sample I used stamps from CDS Cherish (5525) set and clear embossed my stamped images.
STEP 5
Using the diagram below, fold your template and five pieces of 6 x 6 as follows:
1. With your pattern facing down, fold into quarters, once left to right, once top to bottom and unfold.
2. Flip your paper with the patterned side up and fold diagonally. It will look like a triangle.
3. Unfold the triangle and collapse the sides inward with the patterned side facing out.
4. Your piece will have the shape of a diamond at this point. Be sure to lay it flat and crease all the edges flat.
5. Using your heart template, trace the top of the heart on the OPEN END of your diamond shapes. Hold each piece tightly and cut along the pencil line carefully. DO NOT CUT THE FOLDED END!
STEP 6
Ink all the exposed edges and outside folds with the Jumob Java ink.
STEP 7
Adhere the folded sheets together by adhering the square panels end to end. Be sure to use the panel that does not have a fold.
STEP 8
Cut your ribbon in half. Adhere a piece of ribbon diagonally across each end piece. Adhere the two end panels over the ribbon.
STEP 9
String bead over both ribbons. Tie a Lark's Head knot and trim off excess ribbon. Slide the bead toward the cover to hold it closed or open. You're done!
Here are a few more examples of the folded hearts:
If you don't have double-sided card stock, you can use two pieces of lighter weight paper and glue them back to back. If you have a Xyron machine, they are great for this, or you could use spray mount to put the sheets together. You do want to use paper with a little bit of weight to it.
I hope you have enjoyed today's tutorial. Drop us an email with your version of this project!
Have a wonderful day of crafting!

Good morning everyone! Its that time again, which means its Tuesday, which also means that its Katie welcoming you to Clearly iStamp. Did I peak your curiosity with the title??
First things first though - SCROLL DOWN FOR BLOG CANDY - there is plenty of time for you to play along.
So today, I thought I would focus on one of the many aspects that I LOVE about Clear Dollar Stamps, which is CHOICE, VALUE, and AFFORDABILITY. My focus isn't on just one stamp set, but FIVE. All five of these stamps or even sets are under $5 each. This allows you the stamper to have lots of choices and to in essence create your own sets that will work with each other.
What I'm going to do is show you four cards that I've created focusing on 5 stamps that are each under $5.00. The first card is a very cute set, yup, I said "set" called Thankful for You. It consists of this really pretty vase and flowers as well as 2 sentiments to go along.
I made this card with fellow Design Team Member Kim Teasdale lurking in my mind (in a good way). She totally inspired me to watercolor in a different way than I've showed you in the past. I used my Le Plume markers and my waterbrush and I think it turned out pretty well. I might have gone a bit crazy with my painted background, I was just having too much fun painting away, but practice makes perfect or better (lol). Both Kim and Lori took a water color painting class at CHA (Craft and Hobby Association Show) and like I said, I was inspired. Kim also said that she embosses most of her images so I did that as well with gold embossing powder. I also went out and purchased some 140lb water color paper too and that made the world of difference when using the waterbrush.
*********************************************************************************************************************
My next card features a single stamp that I adore. Ernie Elephant is terribly cute and works for all sorts of themes and is going to lighten your wallet by $2.49! My card features him as a cute little birthday card or even a baby card. I decided to leave the front sentiment free and then add my own at a later date depending on the occasion. I stamped Ernie onto some designer paper with black pigment ink and embossed him with clear embossing powder. I then cut him out and attached him with pop dots. I used a Martha Stewart punch to create my lacy scallops and used nestabilities to mat Ernie.
**************************************************************************************************************************
My third stamp is just one of 13 :) Its a set called Formal Sentiments and has a nice variety of sentiments for just about every occasion. In my opinion, you can never have too many sentiments in one's collection. This set retails for $4.99 - 13 sentiments folks!
Even if you aren't a huge stamper, you HAVE to have sentiments! It just adds that little extra to your little gift or project. My baby bottle gift bag would be perfect to house some baby goodies such as a little outfit, onesies, baby socks, hat, your imagination is the limit. I used my Cricut Expression to cut my bottle. I did two layers to make it extra sturdy and then inked up each section with the coordinating colored ink. All I did was make a basic box and then attached a front and back bottle and added a paper handle. I used the Doodlecharms cartridge and cut at 7 1/2".
***************************************************************************************************************************
I admit that for this next card, I cheated just a tad. I combined 2 under $5 stamps for this one, but they work hand in hand with each other or are just fun by themselves. The main stamp image is Cocoa the Dog and retails for $1.99.
Does anybody recall my background paper?? Its the random stamped paper that I created a while back - see, I said it would come in handy, click -->HERE<-- to check it out. The fire hydrant image is from a set called Doggie Toys and that set has 7 images and retails for a whopping $3.99.
I stamped Cocoa with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and created black spots with a multiliner black pen. I then colored his nose in with a Copic Marker and added just a bit of outlining with the Cool Grey (C-1) marker. I really like him in spots :) I just happened to get my hands on one of the newest sets of nesties (Octagon shape) and I thought this was the perfect shape to mat little Cocoa onto. The sentiment tag started out as an oval and I cut one end off and then added some Kaisercraft bling to it. I finished up with some sewing and little dots. I adore the black, red, and white theme of this card.
Well that's it folks. I just want to reiterate that there is a lot of choice at Clear Dollar Stamps and with all that choice and value, it's just so fun to shop and stamp.
Thanks for hanging with me and one last reminder that there is BLOG CANDY available just a scroll away. Lori's giving you lots of time to enter, but don't wait too long. Have a wonderful and happy Tuesday.
