My Friday post is a couple days early this month, but I just coudn't wait to show you what my new product does.....Tombow watercolor markers are wonderful!
When I was at CHA this January (Craft and Hobby Association trade show) I took some classes. Tombow watercolor markers was one of them. And I am in love! I love the look of watercolor, and I am just thrilled with the results a first time user can get using the markers to watercolor!
Here is the sample that I am going to be walking you through today:
First, let's start with the concept behind the watercolor markers. You are going to lay down a little ink on your artwork and then pull it across with water to create a shaded watercolor effect.
1. As the first picture depicts, you are starting away from your line of color and are wetting your watercolor paper clear up to your line of color....this will help carry the color evenly across your watercolor paper. So you are moving from right to left.
2. Now, once you pick up some color with your waterbrush or water coloring paint brush, you will move from left to right.
3. Continue to color your pigment outwart to the right. This is how you will fill your stamped image.
BASIC STARTER POINTS
1. You MUST use water color paper. I use Strathmore Watercolor, cold press, 140lb paper from Hobby Lobby which I bought with my 40% off coupon :-)
2. You need a Waterbrush or a water color paint brush. I use both....it just depends on the image and circumstance. The Waterbrush is loaded with water (it slowly disperses as you paint from the cylinder in the handle, it is also refillable) so you don't have to keep dipping back in to a bowl of water. This one is my first preference.
3. You need to emboss the image that you have been using. (Click here to learn what embossing is) I use the Versamark pad as it has several uses as described in the linked tutorial. You are using water to carry your color around your image. The embossing creates pools for the color to stay within.

I have chosen the Butterfly from Beautiful Butterflies set because you can't mess it up! Butterflies are a palette of colors and perfect for the beginner! I am using Tombow markers: 443, 055, and 925.
READ THIS FIRST! This is the only thing I am going to say and then the pictures can talk. You must start at the point FARTHEST from your color. Moisten your paper, not have water standing, and work towards your point of color and then pull backwards. Ok, now you can look at the pictures :-)
To create your background around your butterfly, the same procedure, start at the edge of your canvas, or area you want to have color, and moisten the paper up to your color line and then pull the color out. Put a small line of color down as shown, and then work your way around your butterfly in small sections.
What a beautiful butterfly you can create your VERY FIRST TIME! I promise! I watched lady after lady that attended our recent crops, walk away with beautiful creations the very first time!

Hope your day is filled with blessings and stamping galore!

Wow, Lori! Your tutorial is fabulous, and it explains why my marker watercoloring wasn't working...wet the paper starting from farthest edge. Woo hoo!!!

Awesome tutorial!!! I've tried this with the kids Crayola markers once while playing around, thinking it would work, but just couldn't get the colors to blend out. I'm LOVING the results of the Tombow markers!
