Good morning friends! Its Tuesday and its Katie here hoping you are having a great day. I want to share another idea/tutorial with you for the men in your life. Father's Day is just around the corner and I think these shirts are the cutest. Dress these up or dress them down. You can even make these to be just like the shirts the Dads in your life wear.
I've seen several tutorials for these and they are essentially an origami fold. The very first tutorial I saw was HERE and you can click HERE to see an example of the traditional origami fold to create this shirt. There are many sites all showing essentially the same thing.
I decided to show just a plain folding method using the creases to keep the folds even and as guides. You can use a Scor-Pal if you want, but I really think this is the easiest and quickest. Once you do one shirt, they come together very quickly.
Start with a piece of lightweight designer paper or you could even use copier paper for these. You don't want to use thick cardstock because the folds get cumbersome and bulky. The white shirt in the picture was folded with plain copier paper and all the other shirts were random stamped on the back side which was white of some thinner designer scrapbook paper. I love the designer look I created with colors and images of my choice.
I used the stamp set Bold Bouquet to create all my stamped Hawaiian themed shirts and Card Categories and Card Categories Too to create my "Happy Father's Day" sentiment.
I also created my own ties by using stamps from a set called Too Sweet. For the striped tie, I stamped in red and then used a Copic marker to color in the rest.
Start with a piece of paper that measures 4 x 6
Fold your piece in half along the 6" side and unfold.
Then fold each half so they meet in the middle.
To create the sleeves, pick one end and fold outward. Use the folded seam as your guide. You can adjust the angle of the fold, but you will want the fold to extend down approximately 2 1/2".
Do both sides.
Turn your paper over to the other side.
Now fold the bottom upward approximately 1/4" - again, you don't have to be exact here. Use a bone folder to set fold.
Flip your folded piece over again and fold the corners inward. Use the crease in the middle of your piece as your guide. Fold both corners inward.
This is what it should look like.
Turn your shirt so that your collar is at the top (like the picture below)
We're almost done. Now all you have to do is fold the bottom half up and tuck it right under the collar flaps.
And the finished shirt. At this point, its up to you how you want to embellish your shirt.
- How about real buttons
- Brads (small or big)
- Tie ( I cut a strip of cardstock about 3/4" wide and snip the end or just leave plain)
Here's a close up of the shirt I made and attached to the card at the beginning of the post. The card itself is pretty simple since I wanted the focus on the shirt itself.
Thanks for joining me today and I hope you give one of these shirts a try. They are a great way to personalize your Father's Day card. Make one or make a bunch! Enjoy the rest of your day and thanks again for visiting.
This is Katie signing off for Clearly iStamp.
Incidentally, I like the way you have structured your site, it is super and very easy to follow. I have bookmarked you and will be back regularly. Thank you
