Good morning friends, its Katie here welcoming you to another day at Clearly iStamp. I hope you've enjoyed all the great samples this past week. Lots and lots of eye candy and lots and lots of great new items to fill your carts.
Well, I know that its Sunday and its not my normal posting day, but I've got something for you anyway. This was an idea that was suggested by a fellow Design Team member and I did a little bit of browsing and found lots of tutorials and even a few video tutorials as well, but as usual, its always slightly different when you do it yourself.
I'm making fortune cookies today and I'll say up front that I felt that the whole process was a bit temperamental, but I loved the end result.
I started with some Basic Grey Paper (Lime Rickey) The great thing about making these fortune cookies is that they will work for whatever type or themed event you want to make them for. They are just plain fun looking.
Now, you can make your fortune cookies any size you would like and I've got several sizes to show you. I wanted to make 6" circles, but it wouldn't work for me. Curious as to why? Well, my hand width is too small. You'll have to try one yourself or get your hubby to do the scrunching for you :)
So what I did was create some different sizes with my circle nestabilities. Remember your sandwich will look like this: Plate A, Plate B, Die, and Plate C
Another size I made was using a CD. I just traced it with a pencil and hand cut with a pair of scissors.
So what is the mister for? Well, for the life of me I couldn't get my cardstock to fold right without getting a rip here and there. So my solution is to very lightly mist my cardstock. It softens it just enough that its very pliable.
Fold in half.
Ok, this part is a bit difficult to describe in writing, but the picture speaks well. It doesn't have to be exactly in the center. This is why I couldn't do a 6" circle. My fingers wouldn't spread far enough.
Just keep folding down. Leave folded and your cookie will keep its shape even when its still damp.
Now you can create your "fortunes" for the cookie centers. This is where any theme goes. I decided to use the set called Kid Encouragements, and even though "kids" is in the title, these sentiments really apply for everyone. I just got my oldest a new lunch bag for the school year and it has a separate compartment that I'll be able to toss one of these fortune cookies in without it getting smooshed.
Open up your cookie slightly and place your fortune inside. Once everything is closed, trim the edges of the strips of paper.
Place some double sided tape towards the center. Make sure that your piece isn't too long so it doesn't show.
Squeeze cookie together.
Well, that is it. The process is easy, but like I said, it was temperamental for me. I swear each time I folded one it folded slightly differently than the one before it. BUT... again, I loved the end result.
Below you can see the range of sizes I created.
Here is a complete picture... and what do you see in the background? Don't forget that I promised some blog candy. Lori was kind enough to send me a pad of the Basic Grey Lime Rickey to play with and I didn't even come close to using all of it so I have most of the pad left over. She also sent some matching brads to go along.
Just leave me a comment and I'll randomly pick a winner and post on Tuesday.
Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Katie signing off for Clearly iStamp.
What a great idea. I can see so many ways to adapt these for different occasions. Thank you for sharing.
