So,we're back on schedule and I've got another box tutorial for you. If you are like me, you can't get enough of paper boxes. I'll take any size and shape. Today's box is called a petal box and is a box that I saw at my Mom's one weekend when I was visiting. She said that she had made it at one of her classes that the local scrapbooking store offers. The fun part of the box is really the way it closes.
For those of you that don't have the Cricut machine I apologize, but this box is still easy to put together because the dimensions are easy. You could do this if you have any circle cutting system. This is really a very simple box to put together and fun to decorate.
Items that can be found at the store:
Scor-Pal products
ATG Tape
Memento Ink
Copic markers
Nice Neighborhood Stamp Set
Acrylic Blocks
Nestabilities
Ribbon
Gel Pen
You will need a 12x12 piece of cardstock. I prefer to start with a base and then decorate on top of it. I do this because I always like the extra sturdiness that extra layers give to any of the boxes that I make.
Score at 4" on all 4 sides and cut where indicated. For this particular box, you can cut whichever sides you would like since they are all equal.
Set aside and cut all mats for the box sides. The dimensions are really up to you, but this is what I used.
- Cardstock mats: 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"
- Designer Paper: 3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
You could wait until your box is assembled to adhere your your sides, but I decided to do this before. The X's are where the adhesive goes. Fold and adhere box.
You will now need to cut 4 circles that are 4" in diameter. I used the George Cartridge set on real dial size, cut at 4".
Fold circles in half... the 4" circles can be scored right on the Scor-pal.
Adhere adhesive on the inside of ONE HALF of the circles.
These circles will become the top flaps for your box. This is the easiest way for me to adhere them to the top of my box.
I line the NON adhesive side to the inside of the box first.
Once its all lined up and even I gently push the adhesive side down to the outside of the box.
For this box I decided to create a base for it. I again used my Cricut to cut a square Scallop. I cut one of some cereal box material and then one of cardstock. I used the Mini Monogram cartridge and cut the scallop on REAL DIAL SIZE @ 5.
At this time, I placed my ribbon on my box base and then I placed Scor-tape on the bottom of my box and centered it on my square scallop box.
Now to close your box top. If you are familiar with closing up any box using the under over method then you'll be a pro with this.
Fold one flap down and then fold the next flap down over the first.
Layer the 3rd flap over the second.
For the last flap, if you were just to fold down, it would pop right back up. So, looking at the picture above, the part of the flap that is pictured at the bottom of the picture will lay on top of the 3rd flap and the part of the flap that is at the top of the picture will be gently pushed under the 1st flap.
Then it was time to decorate the front of my box. I decided to use one of the newly released stamp sets called Nice Neighborhood. Oh my, I love these houses. I used Copics to color in my image and the Labels One Nestability to cut my image out.
I then used a Tombow White Gel Pen to create my dashes along my 1/2 circles.
The perfect box for a nice "welcome" to the neighborhood gift.
Thanks as always for stopping by and have a wonderful Tuesday!
