Now, welcome to Tuesday's Tutorial on Wednesday! You might be as discombobulated as I am anyway with the holiday weekend so today's confusion is nothing :)
If you haven't guessed yet, its me Katie here with one last little graduation goody to share with you. I know that some have already graduated, but there are still others of you that are waiting for the memorable day. Why not create some fun and easy favors for your celebration.
You really don't need much for these little goodies and I think I have just about everything in the photo below.
I started off with a traditional black cap box and am using Night Eclipse and you will need 3 pieces measuring 4" x 4", 3 1/8" x 3 1/8" and 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".
The largest piece will be scored on all sides at 1" using your Scor-pal.
The box lid will be scored at 1/2" on all 4 sides.
Next, you will fold and cut.
Flip each piece over and apply adhesive. I just cut some 1/4" scor-tape to use on my lid flaps.
Next, I created markings to make sure that my necessary hole was centered. I measured before I put the flaps together and as you can see I just used a piece of scrap cardstock.
I had to have some stamping with this project so I thought it would be cute to create an image on the bottom of my box. My thoughts were that you would put some sort of candy in these boxes. Whatever you liked. I do know that Michaels carries specific colored M&M's so it would be really cute if you matched those up with school colors.
So, I cut 2" x2" or just shy of that white cardstock and then decided to use a variation of these 3 stamps - graduation cap, Congratulations Sentiment, open scroll, or rolled scroll.
Let's put our cap together. Up above I made sure that I found my center spot, it is now time to do the same thing with the 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" piece.
Next, you'll layer the square piece on top of the lid and place brad in the center. Make sure not to squish the brad too tightly. And if you'd like to put adhesive on the lid before putting the square piece on that is up to you.
Tassel time. I have tons of DMC floss and it really isn't very expensive to purchase either so I decided to use that for my tassel.
I removed the labels and then cut the entire thing in half.
Then I divided each section in half again.
At this point, I stopped and grabbed some address labels and a Copic marker (y17) and colored one of them.
Then I cut a small strip.
Then I grabbed one strand of floss and folded down the top portion, then just wound one side around to tighten it up. You could also just tie it around in a knot.
Then I wrapped my colored sticker sheet around the top portion of my floss.
Take the loose single strand of floss and wrap around the brad and then trim edge so its close to the brad.
Next, all you have to do is trip up the rest of the floss.
Now clearly, if you have very specific colors then go for those, but there is no reason not to have fun with these either. I used some fabulous Basic Gray scraps to create additional grad cap favors. Your scraps are perfect for these little celebration favors.
And don't forget to wrap up those dollar bills, they make perfect "scrolls".
That's it for me today. Thank you for coming to visit us at Clearly iStamp. Make sure to come on back this Friday when our May's Challenge winner and new challenge are posted.
You still have time so if you haven't joined the fun yet for your chance at a great prize, better get going.
