Hi friends, its Katie here to welcome you to another Tuesday Tutorial. Today I was inspired by a couple of things. The first is what is going on around the nation right now and that would be "Back to School". We start after Labor Day here so we have a bit of a wait, but back to school thoughts are definitely floating around.
The other thing that I associate with back to school is READING of course. While I was blog browsing, I came across THIS POST by Andrea Walford and I was inspired. I immediately thought of the perfect little stamp that would work for the bookmark, plus it is gender friendly.
This is really your very basic bookmark. I had been promising one to my oldest, but had been lagging. All the other ones that I had were way to girlie for him. This was perfect.
Here is my ingredients picture. Everything you see can be found at the store except the paper cutter.
You will need these pieces to start.
- Cottonball White (base) - measuring 2 1/2" x 5 1/2
- Hot Cocoa - measuring 2 3/8" x 5 3/8"
- Spring Leaf - measuring 2 1/4" x 5 1/4"
- Pucker Up cut with Labels 5 Nestabilies
- Cosmo Cricket The Boyfriend - measuring 2 1/8" x 4 1/4" (hey... this pad is on sale... grab it before its gone)
- Light Silk Watercolor Paper cut with Labels 5 Nestabilities
Then grab this super cute Apple and Books stamp. Its a tight fit, but I really wanted the label to fit horizontally across my bookmark. Because the fit is tight, I opted to die cut all my labels and then stamp my image.
I used Black Stazon ink because I'm using Tombow Markers.
I used the Tombow Markers that coordinate with my cardstock: Pucker Up (845), Hot Cocoa (899), Mud Pie (947), and Spring Leaf (177).
I also decided to use my Tombow Blender pen rather than my waterbrush for this one. So simple.
All you have to do is stroke the colored sections into the non colored sections. With such a small image, you can either move in circular strokes or in sweeping strokes.
Finish coloring.
Next, layer all your cardstock pieces and your image.
For the designer piece, you will want to cut one side at 2". Make sure that you configure your piece correctly because the 2" section will be your top.
Then attach the top section so its lined up with the top and the bottom section so its lined up with the bottom with the gap in the middle.
Then I grabbed the set Imperial Monogram and a round acrylic block. I have found that the letters in this set are so versatile and I use them often. This round block is great too because it has etched lines on it as well and for these letters specifically, they fit perfectly between both lines.
Just ink up with your Hot Cocoa ink and you are good to go!
Now its time to attach your ribbon and your colored image. I used no adhesive, but rather a stapler to attach. It was a bit tricky to line it all up; fold ribbon in half (about 3 1/2" long) and then center it on the top of your bookmark and finally place your matted image on top of that.
And one last final bookmark.
These are so addicting to make and are quite fun and easy. Get those kids READING! Trust me, I know that its not always the easiest thing to do, but maybe a special bookmark might help!
Thanks for joining me here on Clearly iStamp and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Great project Katie! As an avid reader I always am looking for a great bookmark! I may just use your ideas! Thanks!
