Hi! Good Tuesday morning to you. It is Lisa here. Hi Katie we miss you. Today we are getting into shape. We are going to make a shapre card. Just in time for Valentine's Day. Sure it can be used anytime but it does have the LOVE theme. This one can even hold a gift card.
Here are the supplies we are going to be using today.
STAMPS:We Go Together Like, Acrylic blocks (I forgot to put one in the photo OOPs)
PAPER:Strawberry Jam (5 1/2 x 4 1/4), Pineapple Twist (5 x 4), Cottonball White (almost all of a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet)
INK:Momento Tuxedo Black, Fresh Papaya Palette Ink Pad, Wild Ginger Palette Ink Pad, Hot Cocoa Palette Ink Pad, Copics E57 Worn Parchment, E29 Hot Cocoa, G05 Sweet Pea, G28 Spruce Needle, YG06 Lime Juice, R27 Cherry Go Round, R29 Strawberry Jam, R59 Red Velvet, Y17 Bee Pollen, Y21 Pineapple Twist, E31 Toasted Almond
ACCESSORIES:Spellbinders Circle Nestabilities, Ruler, Pop Up Squares (or some kind of dimensional adhesive..I used 1/16" thickness), Sponges, Score Tape
Start with an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 piece of Cottonball White for your card base...score at 4 1/4. We are making a vertical card. With your ruler measure 1 1/4 on the bottom of your Strawvberry Jam 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece and the bottom of your white card base from each side then draw lines like above from your lines to the top edges (just to the fold line of your card base). This is our shape.
Now take your 5 x 4 pieces of Cottonball White and Fresh Papya. And measure in the same way. Measure 1 1/4 inch from each side on the bottoms of these pieces with the 5" length on the top and bottom, then connect the lines to the top edges. And cut them all out. For the card base I folded it in half after I measured it then cut it with my paper cutter. Now you have your base and your top smaller layers.
Cut up pieces of your score tape (or adhesive of your choice) and place on the back of your Strawberry Jam panel. (I love this color...I use it Alot) Adhere to your card base. I find I can line it up better if I start by lining it up at the bottom of my card. (Please learn from my mistakes...uh hum...I mean experience.)
Now take your cut out Pineapple Twist piece. Place it on your paper cutter with the 5" side at the top. Here we are going to cut out our french fries. Just start at one end and cut at every 1/2". Just place them off to the side in order as you cut them.
This is what yours look like. Right? Of course. I know you are a fast learner.
I guess it is a little hard to see from this angle, but you are going to cut the corners off the tops of each fry....just a TINY bit. Tiny tiny tiny. Just a little so it gives it a little shape. Without this they just all look the same and flat. So just barely cut the tips off the corners.
Get out your Wild Ginger ink pad and your sponge. We are going to spong the fries. You only need to sponge the top and sides down about 1 1/2". We are just sponging the edges a little. These aren't very wide...so we don't need to do much.
Here is your top front white shape panel. First you need to take your Spellbinders Circle Nestabilities largest circle (or a household item that will make the shape you want) and cut out part of a circle so that the deepest part is about 1 1/2". Then flip your panel over and place score tape on the bottom and side edges like I have done here. By leaving the open space this allows for your gift certificate to slide in this area.
This is what the back of this panel looks like now with your french fry pieces adhered to it....the sponged sides will face the front. You did good!!!!!!!!!!
This is what the front of your front panel looks like now. MMMMMMMMMM yummy french fries.
Now stamp your hamburger and french fries image centered as you like it on the front panel leaving room for the sentiment just above them on the right. Now stamp your sentiment. Looks good. Take your Wild Ginger ink pad and sponge. Ink up your sponge a little and wipe hard once on a scrap piece of paper. This is so when you sponge it looks smooth. Now spong in circles just outside the image until it is the color you like. Remember start light and get darker as you go. You can add color but cannot remove it here.
Color Time. Stamp your image on a scrap piece (I used the piece from cutting out the circle from our top panel...smart huh? I thought so Hee hee). Take your Copic marker Y21 and just color in all the fries.
Now using Copic Y17 put just a little color on the bottom area of each french fry where you would see a shadow if the light was coming from above. I did this is an upward stroke.
Now just blend with Y21 by going over the area you just colored. I just use upward strokes starting at the bottom. If this is your first time blending with Copics you may want to practice first on a scrap sheet of paper. I find Copic coloring takes practice. But I feel it is worth it. Do the same process on the letters on the french fry box on your image.
Now color the french fry box on your image using R27.
Add upward strokes of color from the bottom and the right side by the hamburger using R29 again you are adding a shadow.
Now just blend the two with R27 starting with upward strokes going over what you just laid down.
If you still want a darker shadow use R59 to add just a little more color in the same shadow areas. (I did on my sample but it showed up extremely dark in my photos so I excluded them). But I then blended with R29 then R27.
Now we are going to add color to the outside lines of the hamburger image that will show when we put another colored one on top. So use Y21 to do the bun, YG06 for the lettuce and E57 for the burger. Now cut out along the outside edge of the fries and hamburger keeping them attached and set aside.
Grab one of your Cottonball White scraps and stamp the hamburger and fries image. This is the last time (unless you make a mistake...but you won't do that). Color in the bun using Y21
Shadow using E31 at the bottom of the top bun and just a line at the bottom of the bottom bun.
Here is what it looks like when you have blended using Y21. On the top bun just use little circles going over the shaded are then use upward strokes to blend upward a little. For the bottom bun just go over the line a little and upward.
Time to tackle the tomato. First color it with R27.
Add R29 on the left and right sides.
Blend with R27 starting on the edges blending toward the middle. The lighter you want your tomato...the less ink you put on. Mine got a little dark. Color the lettuce using YG67.
Add your shadow using G05 and blend in the same way starting from the sides going towards the center. For darker edges add a little G28. I did in my sample but again it showed up too dark in the photos so I excluded them from this tutorial. Again...for the burger the brown was too dark to photo...the photos did not show the shading difference. Sorry. So just color in the burger using E57 then shade on the left and right using E29 and blend with E57 towards the middle. These blend nice. For a darker shadow repeat the process. I did in my sample.
For the finishing touch...take your sponge again (clean side or new one) and your Hot Cocoa ink pad. Now dab your sponge on the ink pad and swipe it off on a scrap piece of paper. Then sponge the edges. We want a soft shadow. This is a dark color so go easy. I did not use much. Just enough to add a little dimension.
Put on your pop up squares (or whatever dimensional adhesive you want) on the back of your top panel.
Adhere to the card front. Looking good right?!
Adhere the fries and hamburger cut out combo after you sponged it. I just put on long piece of score tape across the fry and burger. This lets the fries come off the panel just a little and adds dimension. A little tip.
Now just add the burger using a pop up square. Cool huh! You did great. Now I bet you are going to go get a burger. Hee. I'm tempted I must say. Again you have been a wonderful audience. See you next time. But right now I'm going to leave you with some SHAPE INSPIRATION....some other shape cards to inspire you for Valentine's Day. Buh Bye.

Awesome tutorial, Lisa! I made a heart shaped card the other day with my Cricut and SCAL program. Believe me I'll be making more shaped cards in the future. That was so fun and easy :D
