We are CUTTIN' UP at Clear Dollar Stamps this month!
We are now designing Cricut (or SVG cut) files!
(for use on other cutting machines that use SVG files too!)
Want to learn how you can Cut Up too? Read below for a brief outline of what SCAL can do!

What is SCAL?
Sure Cuts A Lot™ is a program that runs on your PC or Macintosh and downloads cut files to your Cricut through a printer cord connected from your computer to your Cricut (or other svg compliant cutting machines). It’s very user friendly so you can focus on your designs and not on how to use the software.
With Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL, for short), you don’t need any additional cartridges. Just the one that came with your machine is all you need. SCAL lets you:
- Cut True Type fonts. You can use fonts already loaded on your computer or download new fonts. There are 1000s of free fonts available on the web. You can even use “dingbat” fonts (i.e. fonts that use shapes instead of letters).
- Cut various shapes using the built in shapes libraries.
- Cut designs stored in SVG file format. There are 100s of free design files available on the web, or you can purchase design files from professional artists, or create your own custom designs
- “Trace” images you like so you can cut them
- Weld overlapping letters and shapes together
- Select styles, including Shadow and Blackout, to change the look of your letters and shapes.
- Save your design layouts, so you can save your work to allow you to make changes over time.
The possibilities are endless!
SCAL works with the Cricut® Personal, Cricut® Expression and Cricut® Create machines.

Here is a little
QUICK START GUIDE
that will get you going with our SVG files in minutes!
You will need:
Sure Cuts a Lot program
Cricut or other cutting machine
SVG files
First, you will need to order your SVG files from our store. You can download them immediately when it takes you to the download screen or you can download them later using the link in your order confirmation email you will receive.
Instructions for downloading the CDS .svg Files
(they will come to you in a zip file)
To download and save on your computer ....
- Download the file(s). The files will be in .zip format. Save in a place easy for you to remember on your computer.
- Open the .zip file.
- While the .zip file window is open (showing the .svg files), open another folder of your choosing (one where you can save all of your .svg files to use).
- Copy or move all of the .svg files from the .zip file to the chosen folder where you are keeping your .svg files.
- Follow the above steps for every .zip file of .svg images.
Using your downloaded SVG or cutting files:
You have to have a cartridge in your Cricut. Connect the cord from the Cricut to your computer. Turn the Cricut on.
Open your SCAL program on your computer...the screen will look like this:

I suggest closing the two boxes on the bottom. So you would have tools, main window and then properties on the right (the three would be in a row)
I suggest: In the properties box type 30 in the zoom box. This will shrink the grid so you can see it all at once and know exactly where you are placing items.
- Import the .svg file of your choice into the program.
This button will take you to a browse screen to import your SVG file. This is where you will go find the file you saved on your computer. When you click on your file to import, it will place it on the mat on your screen. It will look like this (this is the cut file for We Go Together Like):
*****VERY IMPORTANT*****
If the .svg file is one that goes with a specific stamp set, DO NOT resize the images before you cut. If you do, the images will not be the correct size for the stamp that goes on it.
When you open a file that is just an SVG (and not for a stamp) then there will also be a picture of the finished card. That is just there for reference.
..................................
If you need to do any resizing of ANY of the objects I would do it now as a group.
Once you have it the size you want it then move the WHOLE group towards the white empty part to the right of the grid. If you are using a Card Cut file make sure that the picture of the finished card is in the white space. (You do not want to or need to cut that). It is for a guide.
Then you will need to break the object apart so you can move each individual piece.
If you would like to cut one specific image, but not all, you can go to the menu at the top of your screen and click on:
Object
Ungroup
You can then move them around as you like individually.
Move each piece that you want to cut onto the grid. If I was cutting the items in different colors it was easier for me to place the different pieces of paper on the mat. Then I would place the file I wanted to cut where that paper sat on the mat. Then I would cut everything at once.
If there are items you do not want to cut just place them on the white part to the right of the mat. The program will only cut what is on the grid.
When you are ready to cut click on the scissors in the tool bar. Hit okay and it should print!
..................................
If you would like to copy one of the images to cut out more than one:
Right Click your mouse
Click on Copy
Right Click your mouse
Click on Paste
You will then see this:
You will now be able to click on each one and move them around.
Keep copying and pasting until you have the number of images you would like.
If you choose a shape .svg file (Brackets or Scalloped Shapes), import the file as noted above.
When you import it, it will look like this....you do not want to cut this like this! It will cut every line and just be a bunch of unusable pieces!
Click 'break apart' in the "Object" menu (on the line with "File" and "Edit").
This will allow you to use the inside shape separately from the outside (shadow) shape.
You will just need to click on each one and move them to where you would like them to cut.
The scalloped shapes have both the scalloped shapes as well as a non-scalloped shape to use in the center of the scalloped shape.
..................................
Pretty cool, huh?
I love this program!
..................................
It allows you to place your image EXACTLY where you want it to cut! No more guessing where the cartridge is going to cut out your image on your mat! You are in control!
Now you click on the CUT BUTTON and let your Cricut do all the cutting for you!
It really is that easy!
There is sooooooooooo much more you can do!
You will receive a link to many training videos with your purchase!

I will be real honest with all of you. I have had my personal Cricut for 4 years, bought numerous cartridges, and have barely used it! I thought if I had the larger one I could use it more, but alas, that one sat on the shelf unused too. I saw this program demonstrated in October at a scrapbook show, and fell in love. I can't even tell you how many Cricut users I saw walk away with this product at the show after they saw the demo! It was the big buzz!
I now have BOTH of my Cricuts out on my table top and use them at least 2-3 times a week. It is so nice to be able to cut out my stamp images, cut words in any True Type Font, make basic shapes any size that I would like, be able to control where the shape cuts on the paper, and so much more!
Be prepared for a bunch more tutorials and tips to come for this wonderful new product! You really won't regret this investment!
Projects to come:
More label cuts
Card kits
Background cuts
Scrap pages
I really have lost sleep over the possibilities!
Please feel free to email me with any questions you have about this new product!
We are excited about it and hope you will be too!
