Take time to smell the (PAPER) flowers.

Good Tuesday Tutorial Morning. This is Lisa filling in for Katie. Shout out to Katie.....hi Katie-Kate. Okay moving on to today's tutorial....we are making paper flowers. I am going to share with you two ways to make paper flower embellishments using the Blooming Bouquet Die Set.

First we are making Gold Tipped 3-D Flowers. Here are the supplies you will need.

STAMPS:Blooming Bouquet

PAPER:Any paper scraps...for the tutorial I used Bubble Gum, Fresh Papaya and Lime Juice Clearly Coordinating Cardstocks

INK:Clear Dollar Stamps Palette Ink Pads Bubble Gum, Fresh Papaya and Lime Juice, Versa Mark Pad

ACCESSORIES:Blooming Bouquet Die Set, Medium Brass Flower , Mini Gold Brads , Anti Static Embossing Pouch , Cuttlebug, Stampendous Gold Transparent Embossing Powder, Heat Tool

Start by using the large flower form the Blooming Bouquet die set to cut out a flower using Bubble Gum running it through your Cuttlebug (I used here). Then use the small flower die to cut a flower from the Fresh Papaya and then a leaf using the leaf die and Lime Juice Cardstock.

*Tip: If your paper seems stuck in your die after running it through the Cuttlebug...you can run it through again cutting another out and then they will pop out more easily.

Now we are going to use the coordinating palette ink pads to stamp on our shapes. This gives a more defining look to the flowers and leaf.

Here is the gold tip part. First rub your pieces with the Anti Static Embossing Pouch. Then take your VersaMark pad and use like a sponge to cover the edges of the flower (or leaf) and sprinkle with gold embossing powder (you may need to gently blow off any excess powder and heat emboss. Do this to all pieces.

Now you take your scissors and cut slits between each scallop starting from the outside to just inside the inner flower you can see from where you stamped. I pulled up every other petal here to show you the petals.

Yay....now we get to assemble our flower. Just line up the smaller flower inthe center of the bigger flower and use your paper piercer (my hole punch would not reach) to pierce a small hole. Place the brass flower then the brad through the brass flower and flatten on the back. There you go. I love these. This did not photograph as pretty as it is in real life (trust me).

I made this card for my hispanic husband for his birthday and he loved it. He loves the bright colors, the gold and he has a green thumb and loves flowers.

The additional supplies used here to make this card are:

STAMPS: Birthday Celebration

PAPER:Turquoise Gem, Tangelo Smoothie, Gold Cardstock

INK:Momento Dye Ink Tuxedo Black

ACCESSORIES:Score Tape

The second paper flowers I am showing you are rolled flowers. Here are the supplies.

PAPER: Scraps of your choice...in the tutorial I used Fresh Papaya Cardstock

ACCESSORIES:Blooming Bouquet Die Set, Quilling Tool, Two-Way Glue

Cut out a large and small flower from the Fresh Papaya cardstock.

I drew a pencil line to show you how you are going to cut using your scissors. If you use the pencil line...you are going to want to erase it after you cut or it will show. Maybe no one will notice...but I did not like it on mine. I'm picky. Hee. As you cut move the paper with your non scissor hand to guide you.

This is what they look like after you cut...they are little springs. Hee.

Now you insert your quilling tool on the center and roll to the outside. It will spring loose a bit. Just make them as tight or loose as you like and use glue to adhere that outside strip. And Voila.

Here is a card I made using these rolled flowers. I used DP here for my flowers and put half pearl stickers in the centers. I love the look.

Accents/Tools:Blooming Bouquet Die Set (Clear Dollar Stamps), Cuttlebug, Ranger Clear Embossing powder, Embossing Buddy (SU), Pearl Stickers, Dimensional Glaze (used to glue flowers to oval), Dimensional foam tape, Score Tape (from Clear Dollar Stmaps), Paper Piercer, Mouse Pad, Needle, DMC Precious Metal Effects E677, Spellbinders Scallop Oval and Oval Nestabilities, CB Embossing folder

Techniques: Stitching, Dry Embossing, Heat Embossing, Rolled Flowers

What are we doing to help Katie?

We, Katie's crafty family, have set up a blog just for her and our efforts to help her. The blog is called Help 4 Katie. When something like this hits a family, you just want to do something. Many, many have already helped Katie through our initial fund raising efforts at Jak Heath's blog. We thank you so much for all of your contributions to Katie. As we all know, medical treatment for cancer can be quite costly and we want to make sure that she has the absolute best! As of today, we are moving our efforts to a dedicated blog just for Katie.

What we have been doing is taking Digital Image donations from many generous artists in our crafting community, packaging them into a grouping, and then asking for a donation to receive these digi images. The first set of images come with a donation of $20, and are now available on Katie's new blog.

3 cards in 30 Minutes!

Hi Everyone!

True :D here still filling in for our Katie while she is away getting healthy again! :)

Please join us in praying for her daily!

Today I am going to show you how to make 3 cards in 30 minutes while using no designer paper, only 2 standard size pieces of white cardstock pulse some scrap pieces of colored, and a few standard items that are in every crofter's craft space. ;)

These are the supplies you will need:

(2) 11"x8 1/2" sheets of white cardstock

Some scraps of green cardstock (I used CDS Spring Leaf)

"Sentimental Flowers" stamp set

Acrylic blocks

Black ink of your choice

Coloring medium of your choice (I used watercolors)

About 2 yards of ribbon (I used some from my stash)

~*~Check out CDS beautiful ribbons!~*~

A cutting tool, adhesive (I used my pink ATG)

A water brush or paint brush, if using watercolors

Bone folder, corner rounder punch, foam tape, scissors

Bow-Easy

Cut a 3" by 9" piece of the white cardstock and stamp randomly to fill the papers using one of the flowers and a leaf from the "Sentimental Flowers" set.

Color with your favorite coloring method.

You have now created your own "designer paper"! :)

Cut into (3) 3" pieces.

Cut (3) 3 3/4" squares from the green cardstock.

Adhere the "designer paper" pieces to the green squares.

Form (3) A2 top fold cards by cutting your remaining white cardstock into 11" by 4 1/4" pieces that you score and fold at 5 1/2".

Chomp all 4 corners of the card bases with a corner rounder.

Use assorted sentiments from the "Sentimental Flowers" set to stamp on the bottom right side of the front of each card.

Attach the floral squares to the card fronts with double sided foam tape.

(See photo for placement)

Cut enough ribbon to wrap around each card front and adhere.

Make (3) bows and attach at center of ribbon.

I used my Bow-easy...they are awesome!

You now have 3 assorted cards that only took you about 10 minutes each that you can have on hand for emergencies, give as card swaps or give as a gift set!

Alignment guide for Butterfly Die Set

Hello Everyone!

I'm here for a quick little tutorial today to show you how to make an alignment guide for your butterfly dies. In past die sets, we had included plastic dies for you to align your dies with your stamped image. However, our manufacturer is phasing them out as we have found a much more accurate way to align your dies!

We are working with Bold Butterflies Die Set - Set of 3

Let's get started!

First, we are going to take a piece of junk mail or scrap piece of cardstock and cut out our butterfly shape.

This now becomes your "Stamping Alignment Guide".

No more trying to guess which line on the plastic guide is the right place to align! Yay!

Second, you need to stamp your coordinating stamp from Bold Butterflies (or Beautiful Butterflies)

Now, lay your "Stamping Alignment Guide" over your image as shown and line it up precisely as you would like it to cut.

Third, you are going to color in your alignment circles as shown. This will allow you line up the guides on your die with your stamped image.

Fourth, you are going to take your die and lay it ridge side down on your image. The completely flat part will be facing you.

Line up your dots you made on your stamped image with the holes in the die.

Fifth, you are going to tape it in place on your cardstock.

Sixth, you will run this through your Cuttlebug, Sizzix, or whatever die cutting machine you have.

A plate, B plate, die (flat side down) with taped paper on top, paper shims (if necessary), c plate.

TA-DA! A perfectly cut butterfly every time!

SWEET ROLLS (The Recycled Kind)

What recycled sweet rolls? Yep...it's Lisa here. Welcome to today's Tutorial Tuesday. First a shout out to our sweet Katie. Hi Katie-Kate!! Here is a quick Valentine idea with some variations for you using something I KNOW you have in your house....or I sure hope so...Hee. Cardboard toilet paper roll holders. Combine that with some simple craft supplies and your favorite stuffer and Voila a little Valentine for your kids, co-workers, something to put in your loved one's lunches, babysitter, teacher etc.

Here's the supplies used for today's project.

STAMPS: Home Sweet Hive

PAPER:Basic Grey Sugar Rush, Cottonball White scrap

INK:Fresh Papaya Palette Ink, Momento Dye Ink Pad Tuxedo Black

ACCESSORIES:Tabs & Tags Die Set, 1/4" Score Tape, Night Eclipse Grossgrain Ribbon , Acrylic stamping blocks, Snickers Miniatures (stuffer of your choice) , Empty toilet paper roll, Sharp Scissors, 1/4" hole punch

Start with a 6x6 piece of patterned paper and empty toilet paper roll

Place a strip of score tape at both ends of back side of patterned paper.

Adhere to roll centering it so there are equal amounts of left over paper on each side of the roll. Begin by carefully folding over ends in a pushing manner inside the roll.

Apply a strip of score tape along the bottom seam on the roll. Adhere the 22" of ribbon centering it so you have equal amounts on each side.

Take one end and pull straight up so it is center on the end and adhere it to the top with score tape just about an inch.

Fill with candy and repeat with other end.

Here you take your cut out die using the Tabs & Tags die set from a scrap of Cottonball White. Then stamp this bee from the HOME SWEET HIVE stamp set...done in two parts...first stamping the bee in Momento Tuxedo Black and then the stripes in Fresh Papaya. Then stamp the sentiment from the same set. Punch a 1/4" hole at the left edge and insert through your ribbon and tie a knot and cut ends. You are finished!

HERE ARE MORE VARIATIONS!

This one I made for my teenager son.

Using ROCK ON stamp set, Designer Label Additions stamp set, Heavy Metal background stamp, Designer Label die set, Basic Grey Sugar Rush patterned paper, Cherry Go Round Striped Ribbon, Dimensional foam adhesive

This one is perfect for children.

I filled it with Fruit snacks. The fruit snacks fit snuggly so there is no need to secure from the sides. So I wrapped the ribbon around the front sides and cut the slits in the ribbon for a whimsical feel.

I used Monster Mash stamp set, Designer Label Die Set, Basic Grey Sugar Rush patterned paper, Lime Juice cardstock, Lime Juice grossgrain ribbon, Lime juice palette ink pad, small safety pin, googly eye

I made this one for my Mom.

Using Loving Critters Stamp set, Tabs & Tags die set, Basic Grey Sugar Rush patterned paper, Pineapple Twist grossgrain ribbon, Budding Lilac ribbon, Wild Huckleberry Palette Ink Pad, 1/8" hole punch

Here is a party favor using half a roll.

Using Tabs & Tabs stamp set, Basic Grey Sugar Rush patterned paper, Pucker Up ribbon, 1/8", 1 1/4" circle punches

Here's a side view

showing that I punched two holes in the top of the roll after adhering the paper. Then pulled up the ribbon from the bottom (after adhering it to the bottom) and fed it through the holes (cutting the ribbon ends to a point helps put it throught the holes...I also found a pencil helpful for this process). Then just tie off adhering the tag.

HERE A COUPLE MORE VALENTINE IDEAS

(using things you have around the house)

Here is a pencil Valentine perfect for school children and teachers.

You can make it simpler by stamping the image and leaving uncolored. The heart sides are adhered with a pop up dot and the pencil fits just fine. The LOVING CRITTERS image is cut out and popped up. You can also use the LOVING CRITTERS SVG file for this. You can read more on how to use our SVG files HERE

GOT A SICK VALENTINE?

It is flu season. This is a can of Chicken Soup that I covered with paper and decorated the front using GET WELL CRITTERS stamp set.

You can always make over a bag.

I received this bag with a gift in it...I took the label off, paper pieced the STRAWBERRY DIGI and popped it up on the front. To make this even simpler and quicker you can use the new PRE COLORED LITTLE STRAWBERRY digital image set.
