USING CHEST CARD CUT SVG/PDF

Good Tuesday Tutorial Morning to you.  This is Lisa.  I hope you had a restful Memorial Day weekend. I called my Marine son this weekend and had a mundane conversation with him...something I am very thankful for. He came back safely from his deployment to Apghanistan last summer.  He is healthy and well.  I am thankful for all the brave men and women that choose to serve our country and protect our freedom. 

Now to my traditional shout out to our Katie....Hi Katie-Kate.  Thank you to everyone that left a nice comment on my last tutorial: Sandy Ang, Jan Hunnicutt, Candy Fosta, Grace N, Chrissy, Joie McGill, Robin Burgeson, PAT(mspfd).  

Today we'll be making a Toolbox Birthday card. You can make this feminine or masculine by changing the colors. At the bottom of my post are examples from Lori and I of ways to use this file to make a toolbox, treasure chest, recipe box and toybox.  So many possibilities.

 

 

Supplies Needed

STAMPS: Yard Yabber, Circular Saw, Heavy Metal

PAPER:Night Eclipse, Smoke Stack, Cottonball White

INK:VersaMark, Momento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink Pad, Palette Ink Pads Pucker up, Hot Cocoa

ACCESSORIES:Chest Card Cut SVG/PDF file, Siler mini brads, Clear Embossing Powder, Anti-static embossing pouch, Sure Cuts A Lot, Cricuit Expression, Heat Tool, acrylic blocks, Sponge, Dimensionals

 

Cut out chest card shape ...I used the SVG file, my Cricuit Expression and SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot Program) from Night Eclipse Cardstock.  I made my card shape in SCAL to be approximately 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  I made card shape by welding two chest outside shapes together in SCAL.

 

Fold in half using bonefolder.

 

Cut front pieces.  Your black card base will act as a mat for these pieces.

 

Wipe each piece with the anti-static pouch to keep embossing powder from sticking to places other than your stamped image. Heat emboss using heat tool, Heavy Metal stamp and clear embossing powder.

 

Next, sponge the edges (I did more on the edges and a little on the rest) with Hot Cocoa Palette Ink pad for a slightly rusty look.

 

Adhere pieces to cade base.

 

Take a scrap of Cottonball White cardstock 3 1/2 x 1 1/4 and stamp the Circular Saw Individual stamp in Pucker Up Palette Ink.  Then stamp the sentiment from the Yard Yabber set in Momento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink.

 

Mat with a 3 5/8 x 1 3/8 piece of Night Eclipse.

 

Place a mini silver brad in center of the saw where the small circle is.

 

Adhere the sentiment panel to the card front with dimensionals.

 

Cut out two slightly smaller chest shapes so you have a 1/8" mat all around and adhere to the insides.  Then stamp Happy Birthday from the Yard Yabber set by inking up with Momento Tuxedo Black Dye Ink and stamping three consecutive times.  I love how this looks.

How versatile is Versamark?

I think you are going to fall in love with Versamark after you see all that it can do!  Versamark has been one of my long standing favorites and a basic in my stamping box from the roots of my stamping journey.  Let's get started and see exactly what it can do!

First, what does it look like?

We carry four of the Versamark products:

VersaMark Embossing Pad

VersaMark Square

VersaMarker

Versamark Reinker Bottle

Versamark also comes with a blue tint that dries clear so it is easier for you to see it when applying embossing powders.  They have also come out with some glitter pads that we may have to carry for the holidays!  More on that when the time comes!

Versamark as a watermark pad

This is really what sets Versamark apart from any other embossing pad.  When you stamp on cardstock with a regular embossing pad, the "sticky image" you stamp on to your cardstock dries clear unless you heat emboss some embossing powders on to the sticky image.  Versamark will dry a shade darker giving you a darker color of your cardstock!

Isn't that neat?  What a perfect way to create a subtle background....especially when you don't have the correct color ink!

Versamark also serves as a typical embossing pad.  You stamp on the Versamark pad, stamp your image on cardstock, sprinkle some embossing powder on to your project, tap of the excess and you have a shiny, slightly raised image.

You stamp your image on to your cardstock, sprinkle on the colored embossing powder of your choice ( I used Embossing Powder - Asparagus on this project for my stem), use your heat embossing gun (no a hairdryer won't work) and it melts the embossing powder in to a shiny image.

I liked how the green spread down a little on to the strawberry by accident!

I love accidents that are pretty!

 

VersaMARKER

So what use would a person have for a pen filled with Versamark?

Let's take a walk through creating and image and see!

First, it is best to rub the Embossing Anti-static Pouch on your cardstock.  This keeps your embossing powder from clingy (with static) to parts of your cardstock you don't want embossed

Second, I want to use the most common embossing technique with colored embossing powder described in the previous section to form my stem.  Here I have it stamped, colored powder sprinkled on (remember after you sprinkle the powder on your stamped image, flick the excess off by flicking the cardstock gently with your finger):

 Here is what my image looks like once I get them all stamped and embossed.....but there are gaps between my vine and stems....so this is where the VersaMARKER comes in to play!

 I am going to color in that space with my VersaMARKER, sprinkle with powder, heat emboss with my heat gun and ta-da!

Now, we have a complete vine!

  

 The Versamarker is also wonderful for coloring the belly of a turtle, a puddle under your duck, or any other specific area you want shiny!  Just color with your Versamarker, sprinkle with embossing powder, and you are ready to go!

You don't have the correct color of embossing powder, but you have the correct color in an ink pad?

Perfect!

You are ready to emboss!

 Here are the three items you will need for this technique:  stamp cleaning pad, Versamark, ink pad, and of course, clear embossing powder.

I know that my Pallette ink pads work in this manner as well as dye ink pads.

First, you will tap your stamp in the clear Versamark pad.

Second, you will tap your stamp on your colored ink pad.

Third, stamp on your cardstock.

Fourth, AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN, sprinkle the clear embossing powder over your image and tap of the excess.  You must sprinkle quickly so that your ink/versamark image doesn't dry before the powder sticks to it.

Fifth, heat emboss your image!

 

Here is what your image looks like!

******VERY IMPORTANT******

You must clean your stamp between every stamping!

If you don't your Versamark pad with have colored ink all over it!

If you do forget to clean your stamp before stamping again in the Versamark, just dab your Versamark pad with a paper towel until no more color comes off your pad.

Versamark Square as an edge distresser

 Since Versamark dries a shade darker than the paper, you can use it to antique or distress your edges.

Here is my project and I wanted to give it a more aged feel.

 I took my Versamark square and rubbed it on the edges of the cardstock.

 Here is my finished piece.

 Ta-da!  What a cute card just loaded with techniques!

You buy them from the store.

You recieve a download link in your order confirmation email.

You follow this link and download the image to your computer and save (to use as many times as you want...but for YOUR use only, please!)

If you have a cutting machine that you can pull SVG files into such as Klic-N-Kut, Pazzles Inspiration, BossKut Gazelle, Black Cat Cougar/Lynx, US Cutter MH/LaserPoint, CraftWell's eCraft, then these files are for you!

Cricut users:  There is a program that is explained here that you can buy to use with your Cricut machine.  However, if you wish to obtain this program, you will want to do it quickly.  Provocraft is trying to make them take it off the market.  Just so you know!  I never used my Cricut until I bought this program....then it was true love!

If you have no cutting machine, and would like to cut them by hand, you print out the PDF files on your computer and cut, cut, cut!  Perfect for class projects!

Chest Card Cut SVG & PDF File

Our next SVG/PDF file is a toolbox, toybox, recipe box, or a treasure chest!  Now that is versatility!  Lisa Lara is the one who designed this cute little card!

With this sample I am creating a treasure chest for a  treasure hunt for my girls on the last day of school!

I have used the Treasure Hunt Clear Acrylic Stamp set.

I created a clue card, and then the red scroll (created with red cellophane and the straps of the chest file) helps them decode their clue.  First you stamp the "patterned coding square" on your clue card.  You then write in pencil within this square....and the message is hidden!

 
To read their clue, they slip off the twine, unroll their decoder scroll, and read their clue!

Isn't that cool!  The trick is to stamp your "patterned coding square" in the same color of the cellophane.  This way, when they place the cellophane over the words, they magically appear!  Write in pencil and you can reuse these as many times as you would like!

Using your downloaded SVG or cutting files: 

You have to have a cartridge in your Cricut. Connect the cord from the Cricut to your computer. Turn the Cricut on.

Open your SCAL program on your computer...the screen will look like this:

 

You can close some of the extra menus at the bottom if you aren't using them.  This will give you a more open work space.

I suggest closing the two boxes on the bottom. So you would have tools, main window and then properties on the right (the three would be in a row)

I suggest:  In the properties box type 30 in the zoom box. This will shrink the grid so you can see it all at once and know exactly where you are placing items.

 

- Import the .svg file of your choice into the program. 

 

This button will take you to a browse screen to import your SVG file. This is where you will go find the file you saved on your computer.  When you click on your file to import, it will place it on the mat on your screen.  It will look like this (this is the cut file for We Go Together Like):

 

 

When you open a file that is just an SVG (and not for a stamp) then there will also be a picture of the finished card. That is just there for reference.

 

*****VERY IMPORTANT***** 

If the .svg file is one that goes with a specific stamp set, DO NOT resize the images before you cut.  If you do, the images will not be the correct size for the stamp that goes on it.

If you need to do any resizing of ANY of the objects I would do it now as a group.

Once you have it the size you want it then move the WHOLE group towards the white empty part to the right of the grid. Make sure that the picture of the finished card is in the white space. (You do not want to or need to cut that)

Then you will need to break the object apart so you can move each individual piece.

If you would like to cut one specific image, but not all, you can   Go to the menu at the top of your screen and click on:

Object

Break Apart

You can then move them around as you like individually.

Move each piece that you want to cut onto the grid. If I was cutting the items in different colors it was easier for me to place the different pieces of paper on the mat. Then I would place the file I wanted to cut where that paper sat on the mat. Then I would cut everything at once.

 

If there are items you do not want to cut just place them on the white part to the right of the mat. The program will only cut what is on the grid.

 

When you are ready to cut click on the scissors in the tool bar. Hit okay and it should print!

Clearly Inspired Challenge #28 (CIC28)

FATHER'S DAY CARD IDEAS

Good Tutorial Tuesday morning to you all.  Shout out to Katie.....Hi Katie-Kate.  First I want to thank all of you who left such nice comments on my last tutorial.  Thank you Karen Campbell, Candy Fosta, PAT(mspfd), Carol E, Helen, peacefulgardens, Deborah Hilty, Audrey Roseman, Judy, Patricia Baskin, Patti J, Karen, Marcy H., Karinn

 

So...today's tutorial is a Father's Day Easel Card.  Plus ideas at the bottom of my tutorial for inspiration.

 

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

STAMPS:Father's Day, A Godly Father   (and acrylic blocks of course)

PAPER:Night Eclipse, Cottonball White, Basic Grey Sugar Rush

INK:Momento Dye Ink Pad Tuxedo Black

ACCESSORIES:Score Tape, Scorer, Bone Folder, Scissors, Embossing machine (I used the Cuttlebug), Spellbinders Square Nestabilities, Spellbinders tan embossing mat, regular tape (scotch tape), Dimensional foam adhesive, 

 

Start with an 8 1/2 x 4 1/4 piece of Night Eclipse cardstock.  Score on the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4 and 6 3/8.

 

Fold at the center score line so the fold is at the top.

 

Now fold the second score line in a mountain fold so that the back of your card is face down.

 

Cut the following pieces: 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 piece of Night Eclipse cardstock, 4 1/8 x 4 1/8  and 4 1/8 x 2 piece of Cottonball White cardstock.

 

Take your 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 piece of White Cardstock and turn over to the back.  Now place the Spellbinders Square nestabilites...the two largest...centered one inside the other with the cutting side down so it will emboss to the front.  Hold them in place with pieces of regular tape...I use Katie's tip of placing it on and off my jeans a few times to loosen its stickyness.  So it comes off without tearing the paper. 

 

Now its time to emboss this.  I use my Cuttlebug so I will show you how I make the embossing sandwich following the directions inside the Spellbinder's die package.  Place your paper dies side down on the A plate.

 

Place the tan spellbinders embossing mat on top of your paper with the dies.

 

Next place 3 pieces of cardstock on top.

 

Complete the sandwich with two B plates. 

 

Run through the Cuttlebug.  (I have found if I run it through a few times I get a more defined embossed image).

 

 Remove the tape and dies to have two embossed square frames.

 

 Stamp the shirt and tie image from the set FATHER'S DAY using Momento Dye Ink Pad Tuxedo Black in the center of your square.  Stamp the sentiment "Happy Father's Day" using the set A GODLY FATHER.

 

Stamp the shirt and tie image three times on a scrap of white cardstock and once on a piece of patterned paper (I used a scrap from Basic Grey's Sugar Rush collection).

 

Cut out the pieces as shown above to layer on the card front.

 

Put score tape on back of the white card front and adhere to the 4 1/4 x 4 1/4 Night Eclipse cardstock mat for the front of your card.

 

Now put foam adhesive on the back of your shirt and tie pieces.

 

Now begin layering your shirt layers on your card front starting with the biggest...the entire shirt.

 

Next is the patterned paper tie and full shirt collar.

 

Last...add the collars.

 

Now adhere the card front to the front of your mountain fold on the black card base.

 

Now for our sentiment. Stamp this sentiment from A GODLY FATHER on your 4 1/8 x 2 piece of white cardstock.

 

Turn over and place dimensional foam on the back.

 

Adhere sentiment panel to the bottom of the card's inside.  This makes the card be an easel because the front stops at this popped up panel.  But will lay down in the envelope. I love easel cards.

 

Here is a side view to show the layers.

 

And Voila...you are done! Pat yourself on the back. A job well done.

Digi Day at Clear Dollar Stamps!

Our first digi image is this beautiful colored Hydrangea set by Laurie Wilson.  She has colored these images for quick and easy print and assembly or you can print out a black and white version and color it yourself.  Now the best part is that she made papers to go along with it!  Yes, that is right!  You can can a beautiful hand made card in minutes!

This idea came from a customer that had bought this stamp set:  Air Flair Clear Acrylic Stamps.  She had paired the Hot Air Balloon in this set with a hand typed message "lifting you up in prayer".  I thought that was such a great idea!  I decided to do a digi set and will probably do a little stamp set too!

This digi just makes me giggle!  Goats are getting more and more popular in farming communities and I have had several requests for a goat image!  The sayings that Trudy came up with for this set are just so cute!

First, we have added the black Brilliance ink pads.  My design team told me this ink pad works really well to watercolor with your Tombow markers!

This ink pad is excellent for most glossy surfaces including vellum, photos, and coated papers.  Brilliance is also perfect for stamping on or applying directly to ordinary paper, tissue, wood, and other porous surfaces.

Second, we have a few new brads from Eyelet Outlet that are perfect for Father's day and graduation!

and this is just a fun little brad that works perfectly with our Peace Out Clear Acrylic Stamps!

Here is a nifty little tool you will want to have on hand!  This is a Cuttlehug plate. This plate gives you just that extra shim width you need to get your metal dies to work perfectly with your Cuttlebug tool!  Sometimes you won't get a full cut, but if you slip this metal shim between your A plate and your B plate, it works perfectly every time!  Use as a cutting base for intricate cutting dies.

I have chosen a couple of images that boys love!

This card was for Joe who turned 70.  He loves classic cars, owns classic cars, and loved this card!  The inside says:  You're a Classic!  It was just perfect for him!

This card was for Dale that turned 50.  He is a Harley rider and loves motorcycles!

The inside says "keep the dirty side down"....he is very accident prone, so I thought I'd better reinforce some safety!  LOL!

Coloring a "Wedding Cake" With Tombow Markers Tutorial

Hi Everyone!

True :D here.

Usually I show you how to use Tombow markers with water but they can be used by themselves. 

The "Wedding Cake" stamp that I illustrated for Clear Dollar Stamps is a good example of when just markers work well. Because the main color is white it takes just a little shading and the details are so tiny that just a touch of color works.

I found this pretty "Just Married" stack from The Paper Studio and picked my markers to color coordinate.

Actually, Copics, watercolors, or any other coloring medium would work great with this stamp also, making the possible color combinations endless! :)

As you go through the tutorial, remember that you can click on any picture for a closer look.

Here is the "Wediing Cake" stamp set. It is available now for just $5.75!

 First, I placed my stamp on an acrylic block then stamped the cake and several more stampings of just the top with the flower on a piece of scrap cardstock with Hot Cocoa Palette ink pad.  

I will be cutting the flowers out later to add more to the cake.

 Then I lightly added some shadow on the frosting with N89.

 I hit just some shadow areas of the roses leaving some white for highlights with Tombow #772.

You can see where I tested on the paper until I found just the color of marker I wanted. This is a good tip because the colors can look different on some papers then they do others.

 Then I colored the piped frosting with #451. I went over it again in the shadow areas.

 The leaves are done in #126. Again leaving bits of white for highlights.

I used a metallic silver pen to  color the cake platter.

 I cut the cake and the extra roses out with detail scissors.

 Then attached them to the cake with a small dab of Zip Dry glue.

That is it! very quick and simple and you can color your roses and piping to coordinate with special wedding colors or whatever pretty designer papers your little hearts desire.  ;)

I also would like to share a scrapbook page I made earlier using this stamp.

It would be great for accenting all of those wedding pictures you have tucked away in photo boxes! :)
