Hello Everyone! It's the "new" girl, Kathy D., trying her hand with Tuesday Tutorial!
I'm going to show you how to make this cute Get Well bag for someone that just isn't feeling too well. Wouldn't you just love to find this on your night stand when your sick as a dog?!!

I like to look at things, especially cheap things, and wonder what I could make with it or how I could use it somehow. That is how this $1 bag came to be a super cute gift. So you might not have this exact bag but I'm sure you will start to look for things that could be turned into something cute with some added scrappy supplies! Also if you want to make something out of paper check out our SVG files I know there is plenty of cute things that can be used to package a gift.
Here are supplies you will need to get started:
Get Well Critters Clear Acrylic Stamps
Embossing Anti-static Pouch
Double sided tacky tape or Score Tape (1/8", 1/2")
May 2011 Card Cuts SVG and PDF (used card cut file #1)
Bone folder or Scor-tool
1 1/2 inch wide ribbon (to match your bag)
Rick Rack
flower punch
brads to match
3 colors of cardstock (I used black, green, pink)
Paper piercer (I call mine a "poker" and is a MUST HAVE!! I use Making Memories)
Plastic bag from $1 bin at Target
Tag punch (I used EK punch but any would do)
Acrylic Block (I used the 2 x 2)
Embossing powder - black
VersaMark Embossing Pad
Markers to color in the stamp (Tombow: black N15, pink 703, 761, grey N55)
Flowers
Corner rounder (medium)
black ink pad for inking edges ( I use versa magic)
Printer
heat gun

Let's get started! I used the skunk from the stamp set and placed him on the acrylic block. Take your x-static pouch and dab it on the paper you will stamp your image. This keeps the embossing powder from sticking to areas it is not suppose to stick to! Ink up your stamp with VersaMark ink. VersaMark is clear and sticky so you won't see anything but make sure you get the stamp good. Stamp your paper with the image. Make sure you have a piece of scratch paper underneath to catch any extra embossing powder. Sprinkle black embossing powder over the image. Be generous as you will pour the excess back into your container. Then use your heat gun to set the image. The black will turn shiny and it is done.

Do that three times because you will need three skunk images for this project (each side of the bag and the card). Color up the skunk images. If you are like me it is okay if you have to color 25 to get three good ones...practice makes perfect, right!?!

I used the SCAL program with the May 2011 Card Cuts SVG and PDF. But don't worry if you don't have it the card cut file comes in PDF so you can cut it out by hand. I resized the image so that the outside flower was 3 1/4 inches. The program will automatically size down the other two pieces so they all work together. If you are cutting by hand the inside circle is 3 inches and the circle the stamp is on is 2 1/4 inches. Make 3 outside flowers, 2 inside flowers and 3 circles with stamped image. See below on how to cut stamp image with the SCAL Program.

When you cut out the circle that will be inside of the flower use a piece of scratch paper first to see exactly where the program is cutting it.

Keep the template piece in place but just lift up enough to slide your stamped image underneath. Align it where you want it so that the stamp is centered. Once you have it in its place lift the template up and you are ready to cut the image. A perfect cut the first time! You have to do this with all three of your stamped image so once the first one is done cutting use the left over as your template and you're ready to align up the next stamped image.

This is what you end up with (you will have 3). Now it is time to ink the edges.Take a black ink pad and ink the edges of the circles and flowers (I only did the green and white since the other was black). I will show you a picture of inking down below when I make the card in case you're not sure how to ink.

Apply adhesive to the back of inside flower and the inside circle. I used my Xyron as I wanted to make sure it would stick since it was a gift.

This is what the flowers for the bag look like when they are placed together. The outside flower does not have adhesive on it at this time.

Next grab the container, ribbon and rick rack.

Start the ribbon in the center as the flower will cover it up. Use the 1/2 inch score tape in the center of the ribbon (the rick rack will take care of the edges). When you get to the edge make a small (1/8") cut in the top of the ribbon so the ribbon will lay flat.

Now use 1/4" score tape on the back of the rick rack. Place the rick rack on the top and bottom of the ribbon.

Super Easy and you are on your way of making your $1 worth a billion bucks (well, the person who receives it will think so!)

Use the 1/2" score tape on the back of your flower and press in the middle of your bag. Don't forget to do both sides of the bag.

Punch out flowers with small flower punch. Place on bag so you can tell where you want them and how many of each to punch out. Get brads that match.

Another must have tool! I call it the "x". It is great for small items and letters. Turns them into stickers so you don't have to mess with trying to glue little tiny pieces down. I put the tiny flowers in here to make them sticky so I could place them on the bag. The brads will hold them in place on the bag but I wanted to place them all down to see where I wanted them before I placed brads in them.

Now get the handy dandy "poker" (piercing tool) and poke a hole in the middle of the flower.
Insert brad into the center of the flower. Repeat till all the flowers are done on BOTH sides of the bag.
(note: look at that lovely finger cover in black from coloring in the skunk...I wasn't kidding when I said it took me 25 tries! I will leave the coloring to True and Jan they are the experts! I will just make things look pretty!)

There you have a pretty bag to make someone feel better. But of course I had to make a card to go with it! It's simple and I followed a sketch from Fetch a Sketch

Did you know you can get two 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 cards from one 12 x 12 sheet of paper? Super simple.

Cut so it is 8.5 x 12.

Now turn it so the 12 inch side is horizontal. Cut at 5 1/2. Then cut at 5 1/2 again. Then you should have two cards.

Take one of the cards and fold in half. I used by bone folder or Scor-Tool to fold it. If you are a lucky one with a Scor-pal Scoring template you would score it at 4 1/4"

I love to ink edges and most of projects will have this done. Hold the card and ink pad as you see above in the picture. Some people move the paper and keep the ink pad steady. Others (myself included) like to move the ink pad and keep the paper steady. Get some scratch paper out and try it with different ways of moving the ink on the paper. You can just do the edges or angle it and get more of the paper. You can have a little ink on the edges or a lot depends on you. Get out an ink pad and have fun but I warn you inking is ADDICTIVE!!

I didn't use the inside flower for this instead I choose to just use a pink circle. Either way is fine...just be creative and have fun. I added some of the ribbon and flowers. I put brads (another thing I love) in the center of the flowers to give them a finished look. I used a medium corner rounder to punch the bottom two corners of the card. Oh and we have to do the inside...

I printed it off on my computer. Added a little scalloped edge. Thanks to my friend Stephanie who came up with the inside sentiment (she is so clever!) I think we can talk Lori into making the sentiment into a stamp if you leave her a comment letting her know you would like to see it as a stamp!! It fits the skunk stamp so well!!

Just add a little ribbon to the sprite with a tag that says "You'll be back to your bubbly self in no time" or "Here is some bubbly for your upset tummy". My get well bag has a "girly movie" (of course), kleenex, cough drops and hand sanitizer.
Thank you for showing up on this Tuesday and reading my FIRST ever tutorial! Please leave me a comment of what you think. Also, if you have some gifts you need to make for someone (teacher, nurse, etc) and are stuck let me know who you need to make it for and I will see if I can help you out with an idea!
Have a blessed day and I will see you again next month!
