Hello, hello fellow crafters! It's Cassie here, to share a pretty easy one today. Christmas is around the corner, eeeek! I try not to be last minute, but Christmas is something that always seems to sneak up on me leaving me feeling like a dizzy dog chasing his tail.
Most of my nieces and nephews are older, so shopping for gifts is a bit like buying car parts when you have no idea what's wrong with your car, and you don't even own a car. . .you own a bike. . .but I digress. I get them gift cards so as to avoid the uncomfortable 'you shouldn't have, no, you REALLY shouldn't have' looks. In order to put the Aunt Cassie touch on them that just must be, in comes the gift card holder tutorial (thought you'd never get there, right?)
Let's make some. . .shall we? First you'll need a few supplies:
Stamps: Christmas Inch
Paper: Spring Leaf, MME 12 days of Christmas, buttercream
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Copics: YG61, YG63, YG67, E21, E31, E33, BG13, RV63, RV66
Accessories: Scor-Pal, Designer Label Die, paper piercer, Strawberry Jam Baker's Twine, mini brads, corner rounder, foam tape
Let's get started!
Our first step is take your base that you cut from Spring Leaf cardstock, (which should measure 2 3/4" x 8") and score it at the 2 1/2" mark and the 6" mark.
Round the corners of the outside front only. (I have that marked on most pictures)
Using your MME 12 Days of Christmas, you'll cut out 3 panels measuring: 2 1/2" x 2", 2 1/2" x 3 1/4", and 2 1/2" x 1 3/4". You'll round the bottom corners of the one measuring 2 1/2" x 2".
I measured out my Strawberry Jam Baker's Twine to be approximately 17". You're looking at the back of the gc holder, and I have wrapped the twine around the holder like so. I didn't take the best picture of it, but the twine that hangs from the bottom (hanging past the inside pocket) will be slighty longer than the twine that will come down over the outisde front. Clear as mud?
Here's a better look. Try to line up the twine towards the middle of the gc holder. Attach your dp so that the twine stays in place. As you can see, my trees aren't lining up from the back to the outside front. . .keep that in mind as you attach your dp. How do you want it to look when it's all closed up?
As you can see, I DID NOT attach the inside pocket panel over the twine. The twine sticks out from the back, and that is exactly what I want so I can tie a nice bow.
Next, using a paper piercer, I punched holes through both front and back as close to the edge as possible. You want to make sure that your gift card (or even money) will fit nicely in the pocket and not be too crowded.
I attached my inside pocket using some Mini Brads. CDS has a wonderful assortment of them in a wide variety of colors.
Next, I cut out one of the shapes from the Designer Label Die.
I stamped my Christmas Inch image on vanilla cardstock with my Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
I then colored in my image. . .sadly my picture taking is not as good as my coloring. The colors I used are all listed above in the supplies section.
Here it is all tied up without having put on the last details yet.
Put some foam tape on the back of your Die cut image.
Attach it to the front along with your colored image, and TADAAA. . .you have a lovely gift card holder that didn't take you too long! If you have any questions about today's tutorial, shoot me an email ([email protected]).
Now go forth and be crafty, my friends!
Beautiful gift cards Cass!
Great tutorial too!
