Hey there, Crafty Friends! It's Cassie here with the Tuesday Tutorial. How do you display those special cards you receive from friends and family on special occasions? You might have a fireplace to put them on, or an armoire, or some other beautiful place. Or you may be limited on space like some of us (heck I craft out of a closet, HA), so you can't display them for long. I still want to display those memories, so I made a special wall hanging from a cheap picture frame, and I'll show you how I did it.
So what do you think? What to make one? All right go grab a few supplies:
Stamps: Genuine Love clear stamp
Ink: CDS Tropical Mist, CDS Deep Sea, CDS Wild Ginger, Memento Tuxedo Black, SU Basic Gray
Paper: CDS Cottonball White, MME Stella & Rose Hattie
Accessories: Square Nestabilities, Labels 11 Nestabilities (not pictured), Gold Viva Pearl Pen, sponges, CDS Wild Ginger ribbon, CDS Tabs & Tags Die, distresser, crocheted flower, button (not pictured), frame, mini clothes pins (not pictured)
Here we go!
To start, I cut a piece of 4" x 6" designer paper from the MME Stella & Rose Hattie collection. I then cut 3 strips that measured 1" x 5" from the same stack.
Using my Labels 11 Nestabilities, I cut out this shape from the same dp.
Then I simply cut about 1 1/4" off of each end as shown.
I cut one more piece from that dp usind the above swirls that measured 2 1/4" x 3 1/2". ALL of those pieces from the dp were then distressed on the edges as shown above.
I inked the edges with my Tropical Mist & Deep Sea inks.
I attached the gray panels to the 4" x 6" piece shown above, and then added some jute twine.
Next my Labels 11 ends were added. Then I set this aside.
Using my Cottonball White cardstock I cut out a square with my Square Nestabilities.
Next came the fun part. . .sponging the background. I used the Tropical Mist ink to start and used a circular motion to get the ink onto the cardstock.
Using the same circular motions, I sponged on the Deep Sea ink next.
Setting that aside, I pulled out more Cottonball White cardstock and used my Tabs & Tags Die to cut out the shape shown above.
I used the Genuine Love clear set from the Clearly Christian line of stamps along with my Memento Tuxedo Black ink on the Tabs & Tags Die cut.
Setting that aside, I grabbed another piece of Cottonball White Cardstock and my Tropical Mist ink to stamp out some stems.
Then I stamped some flowers using the Wild Ginger ink.
Then came some berries using the Deep Sea ink.
Those were then cut out and I inked the edges with some gray ink.
Let's do some more assembly, shall we? I grabbed my base, and added the next pieces as shown above. . .the swirl panel, the sponged square, the sentiment, and the stems.
Then for fun, I added staples :)
Here comes the Gold Viva Pearl Pen. . .I actually like that it looks hand done and not perfect. I better like now, huh? Haha
Now you better let that dry, so you don't mess it up. Go read a chapter in your favorite book, or maybe you could go drink a cup of coffee and catch up on your blog reading ;)
Now that the pearls are dry, I added the crocheted flower and the button.
I cut roughly a yard of my Wild Ginger Ribbon and dabbed some strong adhesive to the back. (I used some Aileen's glue).
It was then attached to the inside center of the back of the frame as shown. Now it all must dry before the final assembly. . .which means more blog reading! :D
And there you have it! A lovely bit of framed art that holds those precious cards received.
If you have any questions about today's tutorial, feel free to email me ([email protected]).
Now go forth and be crafty, my friends!
